Creating a Foursquare Application

To create a Foursquare App, visit Foursquare Developer Portal.

You must be logged in to your Foursquare account to obtain the Client ID and Client Secret. First, log in to your Foursquare account, then follow the link above to access the Developer Portal.

After logging in, a form will appear. Fill in the required information and submit the form. The page should look similar to the image shown below.

After submitting the form, you will be redirected to the Foursquare Developer Dashboard. Click Create New Project to create a new project. The page should look similar to the image shown below.

You will be redirected to the Create an App page. Enter the required information and click Create to create your application, as shown in the image below.

After clicking Create, you will be redirected to the Project Settings page. Click Generate API Key to generate your Foursquare API key. The page should look similar to the image shown below.

After clicking Generate API Key, a pop-up will appear. Enter a nickname for your API key and click Next. The pop-up should look similar to the image shown below.

After clicking Next, your API key will be generated. Copy the API key and store it securely, as you will not be able to view it again.

After copying the API key, click Dismiss. The screen should look similar to the image shown below.

Now, enter the required information in the appropriate fields and save the settings. After saving, copy the Client ID and Client Secret from your Foursquare application.

Note: When entering your website URL in the Redirect URI(s) field, make sure it exactly matches your actual website URL. You can enter multiple Redirect URIs by separating them with commas.
For example, if your website URL is http://www.domain.com, enter it with www. If your website URL is http://domain.com, enter it without www.

Next, copy the Foursquare Client ID and Client Secret and enter them in the Foursquare App Settings section within the plugin settings page, as shown in the image below.

Important: When copying and pasting the required IDs and Keys, make sure there are no empty spaces at the beginning or end of the entries. Any extra spaces may prevent the application from working and can cause an error when you try to connect to the App.

After entering the Foursquare Client ID and Client Secret, click Save Changes on the plugin’s settings page.
